Marco Near Hurricane Strength, Laura Steady
Marco is almost at hurricane strength, with winds of 70 mph. It is expected to become a hurricane today.
The probability of tropical storm force winds, 39 mph or greater, is near 100%.
Rapid weakening is expected as it moves over land, and turns westward.
Peak storm surge of 4 to 6 feet is expected.
2 to 4 inches of rain are possible along the Gulf coast, which poses a flash flood threat. A better idea of rain totals will be available as we get closer.
Louisiana isn't done yet, though.
Laura will move over Hispaniola and Cuba through the next 36 hours.
Once it reaches the Gulf on Monday night, it should quickly strengthen.
Between Monday night and Wednesday, it is expected to become a hurricane. It could be a category 2 hurricane when it makes landfall in Louisiana or far eastern Texas on Wednesday night.
Again, shifts in track and timing have been occuring, and more can come. Also, storms can rapidly strengthen beyond expectations, especially Laura.
