Entering Peak Hurricane Season Ahead of 2005 Season

This year's hurricane season is faster-paced than the famous 2005 season, which featured destructive Katrina, Wilma, and others.

Tropical Storm Kyle formed Friday afternoon, August 14, whereas Katrina formed August 25. Josephine formed August 13, ahead of Jose of 2005 which formed the 22nd.

Advisories were initiated for Arthur (2020) on May 16, while Arlene formed June 8.

There are two disturbances:

The one on the left will move quickly at about 20 mph to the west. Due to the speed, significant development is not expected for a day or two. It is expected to move more slowly through the Caribbean, and development is possible there.
On the right is a tropical wave that could see some development after it moves into the tropical Atlantic.

Josephine is now a depression and will continue to weaken over the next few days. It could become post tropical as early as tonight.
