Laura Approaching Landfall As An Extremely Dangerous Hurricane
As of 9pm, Laura is only 90 miles from Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Maximum sustained winds are now at 150 mph.
Laura could have some small additional strengthening in the next few hours. Regardless, Laura will be an extremely dangerous hurricane at landfall.
Landfall is expected along west Louisiana and extreme eastern Texas.
15 to 20 feet of storm surge will completely devastate the coast and can spread 30 miles inland.
Rain totals of 5 to 10 inches, with isolated totals of 15 inches are expected. This will cause flash flooding in Louisiana, and not just the coastline.
A combination of extreme winds, extreme storm surge, and high rainfall totals is expected to cause catastrophic damage in Louisiana.
Out in the eastern Atlantic, a tropical wave will move west from the coast of Africa. While development is not expected over the next few days, conditions will become more favorable next week. Obviously, the focus right now is on Laura.
Locally, heavy rain and gusty winds are likely later Shabbos and Motzei Shabbos.
