Depression Forms Over Caribbean, Poses Significant Flood Risk To Central America
Tropical Depression #29 has formed in the Caribbean Sea, and is expected to become tropical storm Eta tonight.
Continued strengthening is forecast, and Eta should then become a hurricane Sunday night or Monday.
One potential hindrance to strengthening is land interaction. As long as the center stays off land Monday, it can strengthen more.
Regardless, extreme rainfall is expected, as Eta will crawl over Nicaragua and Honduras.
10 to 20 inches of rain could fall through the middle of the week, with isolated totals of 2 feet possible.
Eta will break the record for the most storms named in a single season.
