Delta Expected To Slam Yucatan Peninsula
"The hurricane is in the midst of a very impressive rapid intensification episode", the National Hurricane Center said early this morning.
Delta now has 110 mph winds, and should reach category 4 status before landfall in the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula.
Delta will weaken over land, but some restrengthening is likely over the Gulf of Mexico. However, conditions will be less favorable in the northern part of the Gulf, and Delta should weaken some before landfall along the northern Gulf coast.
Several inches of rain and extremely dangerous winds are expected in the Peninsula tomorrow. Delta poses a threat for flooding and strong winds this weekend somewhere between Alabama and Louisiana.
Local effects in the Baltimore area are very uncertain, with significant uncertainty in the track, intensity and timing of Delta and its remants in the US.
We could get anywhere from little or no rain to pouring rain with some flooding possible. It could be anytime from late Shabbos to early Monday.
