Rene Traveling Over Open Waters
Tropical Storm Rene (re-NAY) is traveling over the open Atlantic, over 1,000 miles from the Cabo Verde Islands.
Winds are at 40 mph, but some strengthening is possible through the next 48 hours. However, weakening should begin by Sunday night.
"The cause of the system's decline is not clear. One negative environmental factor could be dry air", the National Hurricane Center said. "Mid-level relative humidities of 50-55 percent" are apparent near the storm.
