Alpha and Beta Form As Hurricane Season Heads Into Greek Alphabet Names

Hurricane season 2020 for the Atlantic has officially begun using letters from the Greek Alphabet.

Subtropical storm Alpha formed right before landfall in Portugal. Alpha should become a depression tonight and dissipate on Shabbos.

Depression #22 strengthened into Tropical Storm Beta over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
Beta should gradually strengthen over the next few days. The exact track is uncertain, and could take the cyclone inland over Southern Texas on Monday or Tuesday or keep it offshore through mid week.

Either way, heavy rain and gusty winds are likely.

We will continue to use letters from the Greek Alphabet for the rest of the year.

Next up would be Gamma and Delta. The farthest through the alphabet that a hurricane season got was Zelta in 2005.
