Update on Ice Storm Shabbos Into Sunday
Very icy conditions are increasingly likely, with cold air at the surface but warm air up in the sky.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect 10am Shabbos until 7am Sunday for most of Maryland.
There has been a tendency lately for computer models to show a moderate storm, lessen it 24-48 hours before it, and then amplify it right before it happens.
So it looked like we could get 0.25+ inches of ice (a very thick glaze), but now they are showing 0.1 to 0.2 inches for the most part.
Right now, the highest totals (over 0.25 inches) will be in southern and eastern Maryland.
But even 0.1-0.2" can cause significant difficulties in traveling.
Here are the details:
-Some sleet Shabbos, mostly towards the evening
-Freezing rain Motzei Shabbos
-Likely ice accumulations of 0.1 to 0.1 inches
"If the more robust 12z [7am] guidance ends up being correct, more significant icing would be possible further north and west into the metros", the National Weather Service said.Looking towards next week, chances are increasing for icy weather Tuesday, and there may be more wintry weather Thursday. But we'll get to that next week.
