10pm Winter Storm Update
Here is a 10pm update on the winter storm expected in the area beginning early tomorrow morning.
Snow should begin around daybreak, though some flurries are possible before that.
The heaviest snow will be between 7am and noon Thursday. Snowfall rates of 1-2" per hour are possible at times (this doesn't mean 1 or 2 inches per hour, but the rate at which the snow falls, if it would for an hour).
It will switch to sleet by late morning (in pink above), before getting lighter by mid afternoon.
Snow totals of 4 to 7 inches are expected.
From that point on, it is still a little murky.
Sleet and freezing rain are expected Thursday night. Ice accumulations of a glaze (0.1-0.2") are expected. This is on top of snowfall.
What is sleet, freezing rain, and snow and what's the difference?
Sleet will accumulate some on top of snow, while freezing rain just ices over the snow.
Sleet will accumulate some on top of snow, while freezing rain just ices over the snow.
Freezing rain is what caused the ice last Sunday, and in storms in Texas recently.
A couple degree difference makes it totally different.
Expect a mix of sleet and freezing rain Thursday night.
Then some snow showers are possible Friday, and another coating of snow would then be possible.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 3am tonight until 6am Friday.
Highs Thursday will be around 28, with Friday expected to be 35.
Then Shabbos will be 32 and sunny, with a stiff breeze.
