Clear and Cool Sunday, Messy Monday and Tuesday

Sunday is clear and cooler, with sunny skies. Then we have a messy Monday/Tuesday ahead, and another storm to watch for Thursday.

Sunday reaches 37 after a cold start near 20 in the morning. Expect sunny skies, and only a light breeze.

Monday is near 37 for the high, with similar temperatures Tuesday. But Monday night should reach to near 30.

While things are still subject to change, it looks like we are in for some icy roads later Monday and Tuesday.

Precipitation could begin between 3pm and 6pm, forsure by 8pm. It will likely be a wintry mix of rain and snow to start, becoming freezing rain by midnight. Freezing rain is when it is warm aloft but cold on the ground.

The atmosphere in this storm will be inverted - that means it is coldest by the ground and warmer up above (normally, its colder above than on the ground).

Freezing rain is precipitation falls as rain but freezes upon contact with a surface. We got 3-5 hours of this in December this winter, on December 16. That time, we got around 0.1 inches of ice. That might sound like nothing, but it is very slippery.

With that in mind, this is a storm that is worth watching.

The bulk of the precipitation will likely end Tuesday morning, although some light rain/snow is possible Tuesday.

There is also what to watch for on Thursday; although the storm may pass south of us.

Here is what some other forecasters are saying.

The National Weather service is predicting 1-2" of snow for Monday-Tuesday (above). They also predict around 0.1" of ice (below).

Accuweather is calling for a coating to an inch, with nearly equal chances of 1-3". They also agree a trace to a glaze of ice is likely (0.05" or so).

Here are what some computer models are indicating.

More details will be available Sunday evening.
